The right to vote is just a benefit that people have long overlooked. It’s become subject for the indifference of our entitlement as opposed to being subject to the examination of our responsibility. The essential work for this election won’t be achieved by the candidates, or at the very least it shouldn’t be. The most crucial and necessary work with this next Presidential election will be accomplished by the electorate, the American voter…you and me.
Our tendency is to believe that on November 4, 2008, we will enter the voter’s booth, push a button or two, and magically, our prospect, whoever they might be, will be elected to office. When, in reality, the real work must be taking place today, in the privacy of our houses, as we do the study required to make the greatest decision. The alternative is the fact that we continue to invest weeks on end being dirtied by political mudslinging while we remain on the sidelines and allow the individuals ‘fight it out.’ Political campaigns have become sport and we have become spectators. And, this is exactly what we call democracy?
Political campaigning has turned into a sideshow, of forms, built to keep us from the real work we need to do to place forth an honest vote. Candidates for public office, Presidential or else, are not to be offered to us like exercise equipment on a late-night infomercial. We should choose who our private candidate will be, and maybe not told who they’ll be. Voting is really as much an exercise of as anything freewill. Rights come with duties. We, then, have to be responsible in how we actually choose. So that you can exercise our right to vote, it’s incumbent upon us to turn away from the glitz and glamour of the political ‘red carpet’ back again to the organic nature of true democratic process. We are too far afield of the substance of the democracy, and have grown to be far too enamored with the fame and celebrity overshadowing the candidates.
Training your right to vote consists of 4 crucial steps:
1. Understanding of the individuals. Who they are. Why they’re working. What they stand for. Visiting clicky seemingly provides aids you could use with your dad.
2. Understanding of your personal beliefs. Everything you feel and why.
3. Diligence: Which candidate has most carefully confirmed that he or she values everything you value. (Tip: This decision should not be party-based, it should be value-based.)
4. Vote utilising the information you acquired in performing steps 1-3 above.
Voting is just a personal choice albeit one which has public benefits or consequences, or both. Our personal votes determine what our position on earth will be as a nation and who’ll decide how we will live. It’s not a choice that ought to be taken lightly or left as much as somebody else to make for us because ultimately, the option is ours and we will be held responsible before GOD for it.
We have minds of our own we need to use them to help make the right decisions. We have to stop the cycle of being affected by another person’s world view. Each of us has a global view, and for that reason, each of us also has the responsibility to do some major lifting, pitting value to value, between now and the following Presidential election. Our votes should not be based on what somebody else thinks or believes. We have the natural capacity to be able to make informed decisions and we must use it. We don’t need celebrity endorsements, multi-million dollar campaign ‘war chests’, special interests, or any such thing.
